Seasonal fluctuation of frog renal adenocarcinoma. Prevalence in natural populations.

چکیده
A study was made of spontaneous renal adenocarcinoma in Rana pipiens collected from natural populations. Previous studies of prevalence have been made on purchased frogs and it is now well documented that renal tumor rate increases with storage. The present study provides tumor data on unstored R. pipiens taken directly from their native habitat. Collections of over 2,000 frogs were made in springs and summers of two years in Minnesota and South Dakota. Renal adenocarcinoma prevalence was disproportionately higher in spring collections (18 tumors from 491 frogs) than in summer collections (1 tumor from 1,554 frogs). Prevalence of spring frog renal tumors varied from 0% in several collections to a high of 9% in Otter Tail County, Minnesota. The only summer renal tumor detected was discovered in a frog of the same county. Renal tumors were more common among female frogs (4:8%) than among male frogs (2.8%).

Continued Diminished Prevalence of the Lucke Renal Adenocarcinoma in Minnesota Leopard Frogs
No Luck? renal adenocarcinomas were detected at autopsy of 1216 northern leopard frogs (Rana pipiens) collected in Minnesota during the spring and autumn of 1978 and the spring of 1979, seasons in which the tumor was formerly obtained with a high frequency. The prevalence of renal tumors has been declining in Minnesota since at least 1966, and R. pipiens has become progressively scarce in Minne...
متن کاملFrog virus 3 prevalence in tadpole populations inhabiting cattle-access and non-access wetlands in Tennessee, USA.
Ranaviruses have been associated with most of the reported larval anuran die-offs in the United States. It is hypothesized that anthropogenically induced stress may increase pathogen prevalence in amphibian populations by compromising immunity. Cattle use of wetlands may stress resident tadpole populations by reducing water quality. We isolated a Ranavirus from green frog Rana clamitans (n = 80...
متن کاملPrimary Tubulovillous Adenocarcinoma of Renal Pelvis: An Unusual Genitourinary Tumor
Prolonged inflammation or irritation due to renal calculi can induce glandular metaplasia of the urothelium and even malignant neoplasm. Primary adenocarcinoma in pelvicalyceal system is a rare tumor in such patients. Here, a case of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) positive primary tubulovillous adenocarcinoma in pelvicalyceal system is reported. A 57-year-old male with right abdominal pain and ...
متن کاملTemperature-dependent elaboration of collagenase by the renal adenocarcinoma of the leopard frog, Rana pipiens.
Naturally occurring renal adenocarcinoma in North American leopard frogs, Rana pipiens, metastasize frequently (77%) when these ectothermic animals are kept in a warm environment but not when they are kept cold. We have found that explants of these tumors secrete collagenase, an enzyme capable of dissolving connective tissue fibers and found previously to be closely correlated with metastatic c...

The present study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of developmental stages of Fasciola gigantica infection in Lymnaea snails and their populations in Sylhet region of Bangladesh. A total of 1865 Lymnaea snails were collected and examined, of which 56 (3%) were found to having infected with developmental stages of Fasciola gigantica. Only 4.08% infected of 515 snails were collected fr...
